Plantation Shutters, Designed & Installed

Mostly the louver width. Plantation shutters use wide louvers, typically 3½ to 4½ inches, so tilting them open gives you most of the view and the light. Narrower traditional louvers read as more formal and let in less. Both are custom made to the window opening and mounted like fine millwork.

Neither is better everywhere. Wood is lighter, takes a true stain, and suits living rooms, bedrooms and dining rooms. Composite and polymer shutters will not warp, crack or peel in humidity, which makes them the right choice for bathrooms, kitchens, laundry rooms and damp coastal rooms. Many houses use both, matched in color.

They help. A closed shutter puts a solid panel and a pocket of still air between the room and a cold pane of glass, and a well-fitted frame cuts drafts around the window. For the most insulation per window, ask us about honeycomb (cellular) shades as well.

Yes. We build shutters for arches, circles, angled tops, and bay and bow windows, measured to the exact shape. Specialty shapes are one of the best reasons to choose shutters, because few other treatments fit them as cleanly.
